On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, a special awareness and educational event was held at the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb, bringing together members of the sports, academic, and diabetes communities to highlight the importance of physical activity for people living with Type 1 Diabetes.
The event was organised by HAŠK Mladost in collaboration with the Faculty of Kinesiology in Zagreb, with the support of Dr. Maja Cigrovski Berković, professor and medical doctor, who actively contributed to promoting awareness about diabetes and the positive impact of movement and sport on the everyday lives of children and young people living with the condition.
The event focused on encouraging open conversations about diabetes, reducing stigma, and emphasising the importance of creating supportive environments that enable children and young people with diabetes to safely participate in physical activity and sport.
Participants had the opportunity to learn more about the connection between diabetes management and movement, as well as the role of education, peer support, and community engagement in improving quality of life.
By organising the event within the Faculty of Kinesiology, the initiative also aimed to strengthen collaboration between the academic sector, healthcare professionals, and sports organisations.
This approach reflects the wider goals of the DiaPS – Diabetes and Sport Peer Support project, which promotes inclusion, knowledge-sharing, and accessible support systems for people living with diabetes involved in sport.
World Diabetes Day activities such as this one continue to play an important role in raising awareness about the everyday challenges faced by people living with diabetes, while also highlighting the many possibilities for leading active, healthy, and fulfilling lives through sport and movement.
HAŠK Mladost remains committed to supporting initiatives that connect sport, health, and community engagement, both locally and internationally.
