Survivors get to tell the story! HAŠK Mladost celebrates 125 years of sport, friendship, and… passion
Zagreb, 22 September 2025 – While Bijelo Dugme may have claimed that “reaching 100 is a pain in the neck”, we at HAŠK Mladost proudly say: reaching 125? Pure joy!
Especially when you’ve collected hundreds of medals, thousands of athletes, and at least a million stories that wouldn’t fit in three sports halls or five archives.
In that spirit, our Secretary General Zoran Emeršić and Head of International Relations Bojan Mijatović met with Prof. Jasenka Ostojić, PhD, Vice-Rector for Art, Culture and Inter-Institutional Cooperation at the University of Zagreb.
The occasion? Kicking off preparations for the grand celebration of 125 years of HAŠK Mladost – and even more broadly, 125 years of university sport in Zagreb.
Because if anyone combined science and sport before it became “cool”, it was us. And we haven’t stopped. From gymnastics and fencing to robotics and rowing at the age of 82 – we’ve done it all and still have plenty of energy left.
In these 125 years, we’ve managed to:
- become a home and launchpad for generations of students, athletes, and coaches
- win 44 Olympic medals and reach elite results in water polo, swimming, athletics, rowing and many more sports
- survive more regime changes – six, to be exact – and adapt through countless name changes, structures, and systems
- start, pause or reinvent sports sections that were once “the future of sport”
- and most importantly, always have people driven by passion, not points – visionaries, enthusiasts, and those who see sport as a way of life
The celebration is still ahead, but we can already say this: it’s not a burden – it’s a privilege to build a club where knowledge, passion and sport blend into something truly special.
More info on the celebration programme, historical throwbacks, and how to get involved – coming soon.
Until then, cheer with us for the next 125 to be just as wild and wonderful!
