ReSea Project Brings Local Sports Clubs Together to Promote Sustainable Use of the Sea in Poreč

As part of the Erasmus+ Sport ReSea Sports project, HAŠK Mladost organised three workshops in Poreč on 29 May 2026, focusing on marine conservation, sustainability, and the role of sport in protecting coastal environments. The workshops were led by Bojan Mijatović and brought together representatives of the Swimming Club Poreč, the Association for Underwater Activities and Sport Fishing Poreč, and the Sailing Club Horizont Poreč. All three workshops were held at the premises of Sailing Club Horizont.

The workshops built upon the ReSea Assessment – an environmental vulnerability assessment of the Poreč coastal area and its surrounding marine ecosystem, completed as part of the project during the previous year. The assessment analysed the area’s natural characteristics, the impact of sport and recreational activities on the marine environment, and identified key challenges and opportunities for preserving the Poreč coastal ecosystem.

Through presentations and interactive discussions, participants explored topics such as climate change, marine habitat protection, sustainable use of the sea, and examples of good environmental practices. Particular attention was given to the specific characteristics of the Poreč pilot site and the important role local sports clubs can play in raising environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable behaviour.

Each workshop concluded with the agreement on a concrete regenerative activity that will be implemented within the ReSea pilot site:

  • Swimming Club Poreč will integrate the ReSea project into the programme of the Poreč Dolphin, one of the largest recreational open-water swimming events in the Adriatic.
  • The Association for Underwater Activities and Sport Fishing Poreč will organise seabed clean-up actions in the Poreč coastal area.
  • Sailing Club Horizont Poreč will carry out beach and coastal clean-up activities along the Poreč shoreline.

These activities represent an important milestone in the implementation of the ReSea project, whose objective is to connect sport, local communities and environmental protection through practical regenerative actions. By working closely with local sports organisations and other stakeholders, the project aims to foster long-term care for marine ecosystems and demonstrate how sport can become a powerful driver of positive environmental change.
