DiaPS project presented at DiaEuro Conference in Budapest

rom 21 to 22 September 2024, the DiaPS – Diabetes and Sport Peer Support project was presented at the DiaEuro Conference held in Budapest, Hungary. The conference gathered members of the diabetes and sports community from different European countries, creating a valuable space for discussions about inclusion, physical activity, and future collaboration opportunities.

During the event, Antonia Precali, Ivana Buzjak, and Marko Marković presented the DiaPS project, introducing its goals, digital approach, and the importance of peer support for people living with Type 1 Diabetes involved in sport.

Promoting peer support and active lifestyles

The presentation focused on the role of the DiaPS platform in connecting athletes, coaches, parents, and experts through a combination of educational content and community interaction.

Particular attention was given to the importance of creating supportive environments that encourage people with diabetes to remain active in sport, while also reducing feelings of isolation and uncertainty often connected to diabetes management during physical activity.

The conference provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences with members of the wider diabetes sports community and gather perspectives from participants involved in different initiatives across Europe.

Exploring new opportunities for international collaboration

Alongside the presentation of the project, discussions were also held regarding future possibilities for international cooperation and the continued development of DiaEuro activities.

One of the topics explored was the potential expansion of DiaEuro into sports beyond football, with volleyball emerging as one of the first possible directions for future development. The conversations highlighted a shared interest in creating additional opportunities for people living with diabetes to participate in different sports within an inclusive and supportive environment.

Strengthening the connection between sport and diabetes communities

Participation in the DiaEuro Conference further strengthened the connection between the DiaPS project and the broader European diabetes sports community. Events such as this continue to play an important role in sharing knowledge, building partnerships, and raising awareness about the importance of movement, inclusion, and peer support.
