Horizont Poreč Sailing Club Carries Out Coastal and Underwater Clean-Up as Part of the ReSea Project

On Saturday, 17 May 2025, Horizont Poreč Sailing Club organised a coastal and underwater clean-up in the Peškera area near Poreč. The initiative was carried out as part of the Erasmus+ Sport ReSea project, in which HAŠK Mladost is a partner, with the aim of protecting the marine environment and encouraging more sustainable sporting practices.

The clean-up focused on the coastline and seabed directly in front of Horizont Poreč Sailing Club, in the Peškera area. Through this initiative, the club made a practical contribution to preserving the local marine environment while highlighting the importance of responsible use of the natural resources on which its sporting activities depend.

Horizont Poreč Sailing Club is one of three local sports clubs involved in implementing ReSea project activities, alongside Poreč Swimming Club and the Poreč Underwater Activities and Sport Fishing Association (DPDSR Poreč). All three clubs share a direct connection with the sea, placing them in a particularly important position to promote its protection and sustainable use.

From Sporting Activities to Practical Environmental Action

The Peškera clean-up demonstrated how sports clubs can take an active role in protecting the environments in which they operate. Beyond removing waste from the coastline and seabed, such initiatives help raise awareness of the importance of marine ecosystem conservation and encourage athletes and local communities to adopt more environmentally responsible practices.

These initiatives are particularly relevant to sports such as sailing, which take place in close contact with nature. Preserving clean seas and coastlines is not only an environmental responsibility but also an essential condition for the long-term sustainability of sporting activities.

The initiative was organised within the international project ReSea – Sustainable Management of Sports Practice towards the Socio-Ecological Regeneration of Maritime and Coastal Areas, which brings together sports organisations and local communities to promote regenerative sport and practices that actively contribute to the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems.

Through its participation in the project, HAŠK Mladost, together with its partners, aims to encourage sports clubs to become active contributors to positive environmental change. The initiative carried out by Horizont Poreč Sailing Club provides another practical example of how sport and environmental responsibility can successfully go hand in hand.
