DiaCro Sport Association Founded – Building a Community That Connects Diabetes and Sport
One of the most valuable outcomes of years of work in the field of diabetes and sport in Croatia is not only the implementation of projects, events, and international cooperation, but also the creation of a lasting community that continues to support people living with diabetes long after individual activities have ended.
Building on the experience gained through DiaEuro activities, international partnerships, and the development of the DiaPS – Diabetes and Sport Peer Support project, HAŠK Mladost and the DiaEuroCro team have taken an important step forward by establishing the DiaCro Sport Association.
The association was founded with a clear vision: to promote active lifestyles, inclusion, and equal opportunities in sport for people living with diabetes.
Supporting People with Diabetes Through Sport
DiaCro Sport was established to encourage and support people living with diabetes in participating in sport and physical activity at all levels – from recreational activities to competitive sport.
The association aims to create opportunities for children, young people, and adults living with diabetes to discover their potential through sport, build confidence, develop independence, and adopt healthy lifestyle habits.
Particular attention is given to supporting children and young people living with Type 1 Diabetes, as well as individuals living with Type 2 Diabetes who participate in sport professionally, competitively, or recreationally.

Promoting Inclusion and Raising Awareness
One of the association’s key goals is to demonstrate that diabetes should never be a barrier to participating in sport or society.
Through educational activities, awareness-raising initiatives, and cooperation with sports organisations, DiaCro Sport works to create an environment in which athletes living with diabetes are welcomed, supported, and recognised as equal members of the sporting community.
At the same time, the association seeks to highlight the positive impact that physical activity can have on diabetes management. Regular participation in sport can significantly contribute to improved blood glucose management, better overall health, and a higher quality of life for people living with diabetes.
Creating Opportunities for Future Generations
In addition to supporting participation in sport, DiaCro Sport aims to develop new initiatives that connect diabetes, health, and physical activity. A strong emphasis is placed on education, knowledge-sharing, and promoting positive role models who can inspire others.
By building a supportive community and creating a network of encouragement and understanding, the association strives to show that an active life with diabetes is not only possible but also highly beneficial for both physical and mental well-being.
A Shared Vision with the DiaPS Project
The values promoted by DiaCro Sport are closely aligned with the objectives of the DiaPS project. Both initiatives are based on the belief that people living with diabetes should have access to reliable information, supportive communities, and equal opportunities to participate in sport.
While DiaPS provides digital tools and peer support on a European level, DiaCro Sport represents a strong local commitment to continuing the same mission – ensuring that people living with diabetes have the support, community, and opportunities they need to stay active, connected, and empowered through sport.
