Project Description

HERIZON is a transnational Erasmus+ Sport project focused on empowering girls and women in sport, with a particular emphasis on field hockey, gender equality, and safe sporting environments. The project runs from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2027 and is supported by the European Union with a grant of €400,000.

The objective of the HERIZON project is to remove barriers that girls and young female athletes face in sport and to create inclusive, supportive, and safe environments where they can develop both their sporting and personal potential. The project promotes equal opportunities through educational activities in schools, coach training programmes, and the development and implementation of strong safeguarding policies aimed at protecting young athletes from discrimination, abuse, and inequality.

Through international cooperation between partners from Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Malta, HERIZON encourages the exchange of good practices, the development of practical tools and guidelines for sport organisations, and the strengthening of capacities to build gender-inclusive sport systems. One of the key activities of the project is the Triangular International Tournament, an international tournament bringing together young female athletes from different countries to promote sport development, intercultural exchange, and confidence building.

In line with the objectives of the European Union and the priorities of the Erasmus+ programme, HERIZON goes beyond being just a sport project — it represents a movement supporting every girl’s right to participate in sport, develop leadership skills, and grow in a safe and equal environment.
